Carmichael Lynch

Carmichael Lynch for the Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists.

Carmichael Lynch created a website for the Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists that allows users to create their own breed or type of animal by combining parts and pieces of different animals. This is a very strange client to take on, even for Carmichael Lynch, who does a lot of work for outdoorsy, manly brands like Harley-Davidson. Taxidermists are the people who stuff dead animals and then sell them or put them on display somewhere? I'm not really sure what the benefit of a taxidermist is, or even what the benefit of taxidermy is in general, and matters are only made worse because the title of the website is "Beast Blender." The name sounds foul, and the concept of creating your own breed or a mixed-matched animal is something I would have done for a science project in 3rd grade. There is not enough substance to the activity on the website to make it entertaining or to allow consumers to interact with the brand for more than a few minutes.

In one article I found regarding the "Beast Blender," it referred to taxidermists as people who create art out of roadkill. Really? Maybe roadkill is not meant to be transformed into art; not every object is intended to be transformed from trash to treasure. This is a perfect example of art being a subjective matter, and the danger we face in classifying art as a completely relative entity with no stipulations or limitations. When we look at art from a completely relative perspective, then we end up with people considering things like dead animals, trash, and feces to be works of art.
